Promoting excellence in TVA operations is Investigation's mission. We do this by conducting investigations designed to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness, and to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse.
Our People
Investigations is comprised of both law enforcement and non-law enforcement staff. Our special agents are federal law enforcement officers who have successfully completed training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center or an equivalent law enforcement academy. Our agents are highly skilled in investigative and law enforcement techniques. In addition to criminal investigations, agents also conduct civil and administrative investigations in areas involving TVA’s interests. Agents are authorized with police powers including arrest authority, subpoena powers, and firearms authorization.
Our non-agent staff is made up of professionals, to include investigative analysts, fraud examiners, and administrative assistants. These individuals perform a variety of tasks, such as administering our hotline as discussed further below, and are highly skilled at analyzing data and obtaining information in support of our investigations. The investigative support staff provides analytical support for complex financial investigations and use data analytics to assess risk and proactively identify fraudulent activity within/against TVA. They also prepare and coordinate investigation’s internal reporting and external reporting to TVA, the Department of Justice, Congress, and the President.
Types of Investigations
OIG Investigations conducts many types of investigations related to TVA. These investigations include:
EmPowerline – The OIG Hotline
The EmPowerline, the OIG’s hotline, allows employees, contractors, and the general public to report suspected fraud, waste, and abuse. Those contacting the EmPowerline are automatically granted confidentiality as required by the Inspector General Reform Act of 2008, which requires nondisclosure of a complainant's name unless the complainant consents or the Inspector General determines that the disclosure is unavoidable during the course of an investigation.
For more information about how you can report a concern, please visit our EmPowerline website using the link below. We strongly encourage you to watch our Empowerline Process: How it Works video to gain an understanding of how the process works and what to report.
